Helpful facts about mold growth in Kingston/New Paltz homes

The warmer temps in our Ulster County areas have kicked spring cleaning into high gear. You might've noticed some damp cardboard boxes in the basement and thought nothing of it, but those wet boxes can lead to mold growth in your home. Most generally, -Mold spores are everywhere in our environment and can enter homes easily.
Check out these facts about mold, they are eye-opening!
-Basements are notoriously damp and have ideal temperatures for mold growth, which is between 60 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. A dehumidifier in your basement can be good idea to help deter moisture and avoid damp and fuzzy cardboard boxes. Try to keep items on shelves in sealed containers rather than boxes. Check through contents regularly to check for mold spores.
-Most mold grows quickly when it has a source for water and organic food, (think about the decaying cardboard, it's food for them!). Perhaps there's a slow leak from the foundation or pipes in the ceiling of the basement are dripping? If you do notice a leak, get the source of the water repaired as soon as possible.
